Watford took the league in the second half, when former Blackburn player Martin Taylor was allowed space in the box from a corner, the Watford man heading powerfully home.

Brian Laws rang the changes, replacing Wade Elliott and Chris Iwelumo with Ross Wallace and Steven Thompson, and it was Wallace who brought the Clarets back level, volleying home from former Watford loanee Chris Eagles’ cross.

Jay Rodriguez won a penalty for Burnley, going down after a push in the back from Taylor, spot kick expert Alexander powerfully hitting his penalty in off the bar to push Burnley back into the play-off places.
