Patrick Bamford “clashed” with Sean Dyche in loan spell, but Burnley boss isn’t surprised by striker’s impact in Premier League

In 2016, Bamford moved to Turf Moor on a season-long loan from Chelsea, but was recalled by his patent club in January after making only six substitute appearances - a total of 34 minutes’ playing time.

Bamford and Dyche were seen to have words after Burnley’s goalless draw at Middlesbrough later in the season, after the forward returned to Teesside on loan, and he later said in an interview: “Me and the boys got on fine but me and Sean Dyche just clashed.

"I could sit down and talk to him now and be civil but we had different ideas of football. I didn't get a chance. His team has done great, mind. I can't argue with that.

"There were a few comments. Dyche said that because I had come through at Chelsea, and because of the way I had been brought up, I had never had to work for anything.

“My background is irrelevant and I didn't even come through at Chelsea. I started at Nottingham Forest cleaning toilets and scrubbing the shower floors.

“So saying I didn't want it enough was upsetting. I went home every night wondering how to get in the Burnley team. It was: 'You've been brought up nicely, had everything handed to you'. Is that what people think just because I went to private school and played instruments?

"People think I don't mind that much but for me not playing is the hardest thing ever. Sitting in the stands has been a nightmare."

Bamford is set to face Burnley with Leeds United on Sunday at Elland Road, but there is no bad blood for Dyche, however, who isn’t surprised to see the 27-year-old proving a few people wrong in the Premier League, where he has nine goals in 14 appearances so far this season.

Dyche said: “He has got talent, that is why we brought him here.

“He didn't quite get up and running, but he has at Leeds.

”A full season has got him used to that, and he has started the season very well.

“He has had talent since a very young age, he moved from Forest to Chelsea at a very young age, so there has always been talent and he is bringing that to the fore this season.”
