The 26-year-old left Turf Moor last week after five years at the club, rejecting the offer of a new contract in favour of a move to Championship rivals Huddersfield Town.

The Northern International made 39 appearances last term, scoring eight times when predominantly used in a wide berth. However, he opted for a change and moved to the John Smith’s Stadium after assurances that manager Mark Robins would play him in his favoured role as a striker.

“I just want to score as many goals as I can and be on the field as much as I can,” Paterson said. “I’ve got no ill feelings towards anyone at Burnley. The manager made the decisions, he picked the team, and it was up to him where he placed me.

“I always gave my best no matter where I was so I had no problem. I was just out of contract so I decided that my future from a footballing perspective would be better elsewhere. There was never any problem between myself and Sean Dyche. I think he’s a good manager and I think he’ll do well at Burnley.”
