Olivia strikes again to fire College into last 16 of cup

UNITY College Under 13s Girls’ football team are flying the flag for Burnley and Lancashire.

The team, who are county champions, are down to the last 16 in the All-English Schools’ Cup, from 400 initial entries.

Unity have performed superbly, beating teams from all around the North West, before winning 7-0 at Huddersfield Grammar in the last round, and then triumphing 2-1 at Wakefield last week.

Battling through the snow, Unity found themselves 1-0 down in Wakefield, before coming from behind to win with a brace from the deadly Olivia Payton - who netted four goals in the previous round!

Olivia is following in the goalscoring footsteps of father Andy, the Padiham Predator - a Burnley legend for his striking exploits with Hull, Middlesbrough, Celtic, Barnsley, Huddersfield Town and the Clarets.

Unity now hope to go all the way in the competition, although they could be faced with some tricky trips, as most of the remaining teams in the cup are based in the south.

l THE Burnley Referees’ Association is celebrating its 90th year in 2011.

And a celebration dinner is set to mark the occasion.

The event will be held at Turf Moor on Saturday, June 11th.
