Burnley FC Girls and Ladies Under 15s beat Bury’s Under 16s at Towneley to reach the Lancashire County Cup Final for the second consecutive year.
The highlight of an excellent team performance was a superb individual goal from Ella McCamon, who, after receiving the ball 20 yards out and surrounded by Bury players, took them on, dropped her shoulder and fired the ball home.
The Clarets made it 2-0 shortly afterwards, when great work from Evie Priestley brought a save from the Bury keeper, only for Leonah Ellis to volley in the rebound.
Bury started the second half well, but nerves were calmed when Katie Halligan took the ball past Bury’s last player and fired the ball through the keeper’s legs.
Bury got a glimmer of hope after a corner was bundled in to make the score 3-1, but McCamon burst through before calmly slotting past the keeper to make the final score 4 – 1.
It was the Clarets’ eighth straight win in the County Cup, and the team will now contest the Final at Lancashire FA’s headquarters in Leyland.
Meanwhile, Burnley Ladies Development Team achieved an impressive 3-0 victory over Barrowford Celtic Ladies in the LFA League Cup.
With Bryony Bancroft and Mollie Farrell having graduated to the first team, Burnley anticipated a tough encounter.
Manager Aidy Lamb introduced two young debutants, Amy Melvin and Alice Routledge from the Under 16s, and Melvin opened the scoring after a superb run by Simone Keating down the left.
Kate O’Hara doubled Burnley’s lead with a powerful shot into the top corner, Phoebe Hindle acting in the role of provider.
Keating completed the victory following another left wing charge and solo finish. Burnley keeper, Sophie Valentine, made a number of acrobatic saves to deny any consolation goals for the frustrated Barrowford outfit.
