Padiham made it back to back victories in the Evostik First Division North at the Arbories Memorial Sports Grounds YESSS Electrical Arena on Saturday thanks to an injury time goal by Daley Woods.

In a scrappy game, on a drying out playing surface and a strong wind, the Storks created a number of half chances in the early stages, going closest on 24 minutes when a dipping shot from Andy Hill forced keeper Brett Souter into making an acrobatic save, a feat he repeated from the resulting corner when he somehow forced over a close range Woods effort.

The visitors had another let off three minutes later, when Alex Young just failed to get enough power on his shot from Tom Fowler’s low cross.

Albion’s best chances of the first half came before half-time when Connor Bower shot wide after a run down the left, and Adam Jones fired over.

Within two minutes of the kick-off Ossett were reduced to 10 men following a reckless challenge by Kyle Harrison.

This fired the visitors up, and on 57 minutes, Padiham keeper Sean Davis needed to make a double save, from Luke Sharry and then Connor Brunt.

At the other end, Tom Murphy saw his cross from the left tipped over by Souter and Chris Turner had a shot headed off the line.

Davis pulled off another tremendous save on 73 minutes to prevent Bower giving Ossett the lead and seven minutes later Davis made yet another save to prevent Albion substitute Kane Reece from scoring.

With time running out, Padiham’s Curtis Haley picked up a second yellow card, but in injury time, Woods curled a shot over the head of Souter and into the net to hand Padiham the points.

Padiham Reserves are in action tomorrow night at Stockport County Reserves.
