Padiham concluded their pre-season preparations on Thursday night with a 1-0 defeat at home to EvoStik Premier Division side AFC Fylde at the Arbories.
It took an injury time free kick from Jack Dorney to settle the game, his effort clipping the edge of the wall and flying out of the reach of keeper Marcus Burgess.
Padiham made Fylde work hard for their victory, and could have got something from the game, only to be denied by keeper Calvin Hares, who, twice in two minutes, denied striker Kieran Pickup with full-length saves, and a number of other stops over the 90 minutes to frustrate the Storks.
Steve Wilkes’ men open their first EvoStik First Division North campaign on Saturday at Northwich Victoria.
The reserves opened the defence of their NWC Reserve Division title with a 2-0 win at home to Cheadle Town on Saturday, with a brace from Wayne Morrison.
