A LAST minute goal saw Padiham FC suffer their first defeat of the pre-season, against a talented Burnley Development Squad team.
The Storks had the better of the first half and went into the half-time interval a goal up thanks to a goal from Ben Allen on the half-hour mark.
Padiham’s keeper didn’t have a save to make in the opening 45 minutes but the second half proved an entirely different proposition.
Assistant manager Steve Cunningham, who was in charge in Steve Wilkes’ absence, made seven changes after the break and the home side never rediscovered their rhythm.
And with 14 minutes remaining, Burnley made them pay when John Goddard scored with a shot from distance.
Padiham looked like they were going to hold on for an impressive point but Shay McCartan had other ideas when he latched on to a loose ball in the box and fired home the winner.
Padiham had won four and drawn one of their previous pre-season games and go into tomorrow’s first league game at home to Runcorn full of confidence.
Kick off is at 3 p.m.
