Nick Pope hails team effort as he looks to wrest Golden Glove from Ederson

But he is in the frame again for the prize for the Premier League’s shutout king.

Pope kept 15 clean sheets last term, only beaten on the final day of the season by Manchester City’s Ederson, who claimed his 16th.

So far this season, Pope is one of five keepers on five clean sheets, with Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez out in front on seven.

Burnley have enjoyed four shut outs in their last six games, to help them collect nine points in that time, and, as Pope looks for another clean sheet against Wolves on Monday evening, the England keeper said: “It’s a good start on that front.

”It’s testament to the lads really. You see the blocks, clearances and making tackles in difficult areas inside the box, outside the box, it really is testament to everyone.

“You always say it starts from the front. We want to them to score the goals for us, but when they haven’t got the ball they’re working tirelessly to help keep the ball out of the net and really set the tone for us boys at the back and really give us a big helping hand.

“It’s a massive team effort, which is something that keeps us together and is part of the togetherness we’ve got that we will need moving forward.”

Those four clean sheets in six games have seen Burnley lose only once in that time, at Manchester City, and the side are looking more like themselves again, proving hard to beat: “We’ve strung a few performances together and a couple of clean sheets and put points on the board, so let’s hope we’re in a good place going into this run of fixtures.

“We’ve been good at being hard to beat over the years and that’s something we really want to carry on.

“It’s something we work hard on. It doesn’t just turn up on the day and it happens.

“You work hard day-in, day-out on that sort of thing to be hard to beat, the organisation, the will to run, the resilience and we’ve got that in abundance and we’ve got to make sure we keep hold of that.

“We don’t want to rest on our laurels. It’s a good return off the last few games, but I feel like we’ve still got more in us.

“It’s about taking the momentum and adding to our game to get those wins on the board.”
