New signings in mix for Clarets v Crystal Palace

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has no qualms about throwing any of his three deadline day signings in for their Burnley debut at Crystal Palace tomorrow.

Dyche landed George Boyd from Hull Cit for what is believed to be a club record-equalling £3m fee, while landing England Under 21 internationals Nathaniel Chalobah, of Chelsea, and Manchester United’s Michael Keane, on loan.

Chalobah and Keane only linked up with their new teammates yesterday, but Dyche said on his thoughts on team selection: “It’s who we think is appropriate for the game.

“We like the players to understand the format and how we expect the team to operate and I think they do.

“It may take a bit more time for them to get the real detail of how we work but they’ll have a handle on us. If we deem it appropriate for them to play they will.

“The two young lads have just this minute got in so obviously I’ll be thinking a little bit more flexibility with them. But Boyd is a mature player and has been around for 10 days now so he’s got a real feel about how we operate and what we do.”

Boyd is a boyhood Palace fan, and Dyche feels he gives Burnley more creativity: “He brings something different. He’s matured as a player and there’s still more to come I feel.

“He’s got very good energy and quality.

“He can score and make a goal which everyone needs in our team. He’ll add to the mentality of the group, he’s a very solid professional and as a person.

“He comes very well recommend from people that have worked with him.”

And on Chalobah and Keane, he added: “The group dynamic is important to us and we wanted to find that balance between young, middle and old.

“Nathaniel and Michael are the younger end of the market, still developing and still learning. But they’re not brought in just for their development, they’re brought in to challenge the

group and themselves.

“They’re brought to be on the team-sheet and as part of the group. That will happen whether it’s immediately or over time.

“They’re two talented youngster and with him and Ingsy we have three England players.”

The trio add to Burnley’s British feel, in a division packed with foreign talent, but Dyche hasn’t ruled out looking abroad for new recruits in future: “I’m not bothered where players come from. I’d like them to be British for obvious reasons because I’d like the national side to get

stronger, but if there was a great German player who we could recruit properly then we would.

“Spain, France it doesn’t matter. It’s just by chance that our recruitment is based around English players because we know more about them.”
