New chairman for BFC in the Community

Brian Nelson has been confirmed as the new chairman of Burnley FC in the Community.

Brian, an existing Trustee who has served on the community board since July 2014, replaces Lee Hoos, who left in May 2015.

Burnley FC in the Community has also appointed former Burnley FC chairman Barry Kilby and local businessman and associate director Richard Sutton to the Board of Trustees.

Brian, the co-owner of Parklane Textiles Ltd, said: “I am thrilled to take on the role of Chairman of Burnley FC in the Community. It’s an exciting time to be part of the charity and to be involved with its many projects and programmes.

“I also welcome both Barry and Richard to the Board of Trustees; I know their commitment to our community will be a fantastic asset to the charities work.”

Barry and Richard join the existing Board of Trustees, which includes Mick Cartledge (director of community services at Burnley Borough Council), Professor Phillip Wilson (Provost and CEO of UCFB), Helen Campbell (assistant headteacher at Sir John Thursby) and Abdul Hamid Qureshi (chairman of Lancashire Council of Mosques).

Local businessman and Burnley FC director Barry was at the helm of Burnley Football Club for 13 years before stepping down in in 2012.

He continues to run his hugely successful lottery management company, Total Gaming Solutions Ltd.

With a strong business background and an unwavering passion for Burnley and its surrounding communities, Barry brings years of invaluable experience and local knowledge to the table.

On his appointment to Board of Trustees, he said, “I’m delighted to be part of this new chapter in Burnley FC’s commitment to community.

“I know the community team are ambitious for the future and I am dedicated to supporting their good work in the local area”.
