‘My header meant most to me’ – Danny Ings

But Danny Ings took more pleasure from his headed second.

The 21-year-old took his tally to nine for the season in 11 games with both goals to see off Nottingham Forest in the Capital One Cup third round.

He equalised right on half-time with a magnificent turn and volley, but after glancing home Junior Stanislas’ free kick midway through the second half to win the tie, he smiled: “The header meant more to me than the other one, although people will probably think the first one was better.

“I’m not the biggest striker in the world so it’s good to get a header.

“I had a few chances before the first, there was one I completely shanked wide, which was quite embarrassing, so it was good to turn it around, stay confident and get that goal.”

Tuesday was only the second time Burnley have gone behind all season, so to buck the trend and still win was impressive: “There was a lot of character shown by the lads. To be honest our mentality at the moment is very strong.

“We came in at half-time and said ‘let’s push for the win, we can do this’ and we did.

“It’s very hard to win every week, you’re going to have ups and downs but at the moment we’re on an up and we want to keep going and not have many bad moments.

“I think we can do that because we’ve got such a good mentality at the moment.

“To be honest, I’d probably take the team winning over me scoring goals but it’s good to do both

“It’s a bonus and I’m happy with that.”

Ings added: “I think every game’s a marker for us.

“We’re showing everybody out there now that we can beat anybody at the moment.”
