'More to come' insists Burnley boss Sean Dyche, after Ben Mee and Bailey Peacock-Farrell sign new contracts

While there is no imminent sign of any signings, Clarets boss Sean Dyche insists “there’s more to come” in terms of tying down current players.

Burnley have only brought in one new face over the close season, in back up goalkeeper Will Norris, and Dyche admitted this week the club are “not close to anything at the moment.”

He is under no illusions as to the necessity of adding to his squad, as he looks to replace Jeff Hendrick, Aaron Lennon, Joe Hart and Adam Legzdins, who left at the end of their contracts in June – with the transfer window open until October 5th.

But Dyche was also keen to avoid a repeat of that contract situation, and the club made a positive step in that respect, by extending captain Ben Mee’s deal to June 2022 at the end of July, before keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell followed suit late last month, agreeing a further 12 months to June 2024.

And on that front, Dyche revealed: “There’s more to come.

“We have to make sure we’re safeguarding in house, as well as looking outside of what we do, and that has to be looked at, quite obviously, and we are doing.

“But in house is important as well, because we think we’ve got some very good players here, and I think it works on two levels. It works in the sense of rewarding them for what they’ve done, and continue to do, and also safeguarding the club for the football business, operating in the Premier League, and the business side, where we should remain strong.

“The best controllable thing is internally, of course.”

Out of contract next summer are Matt Lowton, Jack Cork, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, Robbie Brady, Ashley Westwood, Phil Bardsley, Kevin Long and Jimmy Dunne, while Jay Rodriguez, Matej Vydra and Erik Pieters are out of contract, though there is an option for an extra year in club’s favour with all three.
