Midfielder Jones is refusing to panic!

Alexis Sanchez’s double for Arsenal with Calum Chambers’s first senior goal sandwiched in-between condemned Sean Dyche’s side to their seventh domestic defeat of the term as they remain rooted to the bottom of the table with four points.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Hull City at Turf Moor, the Clarets remain the only club in England’s top four tiers not to have won a game this season.

The 30-year-old, who has been embroiled in relegation battles with Derby County, Wolves and Wigan during his career, said: “It is hard. That’s just the step up in level that we’ve come to. It’s fine margins, little details, but at this level it all counts.

“One thing you can’t do is panic. You’ve got to be relaxed and focused and have clarity of mind to be able to perform at this level and that’s what we’ll continue to do.

“Internally we have lots of confidence that we can get results and keep together as a team and build on that spirit that we showed last year and this year. We just need to turn that spirit into good football and good results.”

Despite the 3-0 loss at the Emirates, Jones admired the organisation, work-rate and discipline of his team-mates during the opening 70-minute shut-out.

And the midfielder is hopeful that those attributes will contribute to success against Steve Bruce’s Tigers.

“I think we can take confidence in to it, but 10 games into the season we don’t want to just keep taking positives,” he said.

“There are some positives of course. I think if we can play with the same discipline and tighten up, maybe take out the few details and the last 20 minutes when we conceded the goals that we weren’t happy with, the win is not far away.

“We’re at home and it’ll be another tough game but it’s one that we need to do well in.”

Dean Marney returned to action against the Gunners at the weekend after overcoming a hamstring strain that saw him sidelined for four fixtures.

And Jones was delighted to welcome back his central midfield partner: “Yes, it’s good,” he said.

“Obviously I like playing with him. Since I came to the club most of the games have been with him.

“It was good to get him back and for him to get a good 80 minutes unscathed.

“He brings energy, quality, experience, all the things you need to compete at this level.”
