Midfielder Jones feels Clarets edged clash against Spurs

The 30-year-old, who has only missed games against West Brom and Leicester City this term, claimed the hosts edged the fixture and were unfortunate not to nick maximum points.

“Tottenham are a very good team and, although it wasn’t a game for the neutral, in terms of chances we were well worth our point and probably edged the balance of play I’d say. We had a couple of chances, I think we edged the chances although there weren’t that many.

“Of course, it was important to get another point and on to the next game. On a different day we could have nicked it, I thought we were pretty solid, it probably wasn’t one of the prettiest football games to watch but I felt we edged it.”

The Clarets kept their seventh clean sheet of the campaign in the stalemate, their second in three outings. Jones believes that miserly defensive record will provide a sturdy platform for success.

“To keep clean sheets against top teams in the league gives you confidence, gives you belief within the squad and hopefully we can continue that in the remaining seven games because that’s what we need.

“I just think we’re up for every game, everybody knows what they’re doing, we work hard at our shape, we’re solid, and the mentality today was another example that here at Turf Moor we’re a match for anyone.

“The last two home games have demonstrated that, it was a similar type of performance to City, it just needed a little bit of quality or a little bit of magic in the other box and we would have got another victory.”
