The 25-year-old arrives for a fee which could rise up to £2.25m, signing a three-year deal, and he will now link up with his new teammates on their pre-season training camp in Austria.

Jutkiewicz spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, where he scored seven goals in 20 appearances, and leaves Boro after 11 goals in 64 appearances after a £1.3m move from Coventry City in 2012.

He was previously a transfer target for then Clarets boss Eddie Howe, while with Coventry, who he joined from Everton for an undisclosed fee in 2010.

The Southampton-born frontman started his career with the Saints, where he was part of the same youth team as Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale, but left the academy before joining Swindon Town, where, after five goals in 38 appearances, David Moyes was persuaded to pay £1m to take him to Everton.

Jutkiewicz joins Michael Kightly, Marvin Sordell, Matt Gilks, Matt Taylor and Steven Reid as Sean Dyche’s summer signings so far, ahead of the Premier League campaign which kicks off at home to Chelsea in just under five weeks.

Boss Sean Dyche said: “We’re looking forward to getting him into the group and making him feel welcome here.

“I still think there is development in Lukas, he’s 25 and has been around a little bit now and he finished last season very strongly.

“I feel there is even more to come and he’ll be hungry for that. He’ll be working with a good group who are all hungry to not only achieve things but to keep pushing themselves as individuals.

“That’s a big part of our mentality and he’ll fit into that very nicely.

“He’s a physical presence who can hold the ball up very well and link play. We think there is goals in him and it is very similar to the Sam Vokes story where he’s always done well and we’re looking for him to build on what he’s done.

“There is a nice demand now in that area of the pitch as all the players offer something different to the team so we’re happy with how that is developing.”
