Marvin Bartley ready to begin new run

MIDFIELDER Marvin Bartley feels the best way to get over Saturday’s sickening defeat against Reading is to go on another unbeaten run.

Burnley saw their sequence of four games without defeat cruelly ended in the ninth-minute of injury time by Bartley’s former club.

But the Clarets have chance to make amends at Barnsley on Tuesday night.

And the in-form 25-year-old said: “We’ll have to start another run.

“In the last four games we’ve won two drawn two and lost one.

“Four games ago people would have said, we’ll take that - especially with the teams that we were playing.

“We’ve got to look at the next four games and try to get on another run, starting at Barnsley.”

And he looked back on the devastating late blow on Saturday: “I think a draw would have been a fair result but even so we would have been disappointed because we didn’t really perform.

“But we would have taken a point and a clean sheet so for them to score so late is a sucker punch.

“We didn’t perform and we know that, but we’ve got another game quickly.

“I don’t think either team were at their best. It’s just one of those things.

“We’ll analyse the game but there’s nothing we can do about it. It’s gone.”

The worst case scenario had appeared to be a goal-less draw and a second-successive clean sheet, aand Bartley added: “It makes it hard to take with them scoring so late. Two clean sheets would have been brilliant, but it’s not happened so we can’t dwell on it too much.

“We’ll look at the game again, train and hopefully be better when we’re back out on the pitch at Barnsley.”
