Writing for BBC Sport, pundit Mark Lawrenson cast his weekly top tier scoreline predictions, and opted for a comfortable 2-1 win for Sean Dyche's side.

Justifying his pick, Lawro claimed: "I am a bit surprised by the way Southampton have started the season with two defeats, especially the way they were taken apart by Tottenham last time out.

"Saints looked full of confidence with the way they finished last season, but there is a risk all of that could be knocked out of them very early on. Burnley also began by losing - against Leicester, after being ahead, but they showed plenty of fight.

"The Clarets have some injury problems to contend with, but I'd still back them to edge this."

Meanwhile, Lawrenson's sparring partner for the week, singer-songwriter Declan McKenna, opted for a 2-2 draw, and said: "I'm going for goals here, especially if Southampton defend like they did against us last week.

The last time the two sides met, back in February last year, the Clarets earned a 2-1 win over the Saints, thanks to goals from Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra.

Burnley have an excellent record against Southampton over the course of their last ten meetings, having lost just twice, and won on five occasions.

Last weekend, the Saints threw away an early lead against Spurs, and were ripped apart in the second half, ending up on the receiving end of a 5-2 thrashing.
