Co chairmen John Banaszkiewicz and Mike Garlick released a statement announcing the news and thanking the management team for their hard work.

And it went on: “We know every Clarets player will wear the shirt with pride as we go up against some of the biggest clubs in the world and are working hard to identify the most suitable transfer targets to be assets for the club in the long term.

“We are hoping we only make headlines once deals are done and will do everything we can to be discreet and limit the rumour-mill, which can be detrimental when seeking and signing players.”

The co-chairmen pledged to continue to invest in the recruitment, sports science and scouting which, they said, had been “so important to us over the years” so the club could ,”continue to build on this prolific pipeline of players into the future”.

They went on: “We also know that once the whistle blows on August 16th for our first game against Chelsea, the fans will get behind the team and the club and give us their full support.

“We remain very proud of being associated with a local club - something that means so much to the town and community we are associated with. We have fans around the world like many clubs, but ours are true supporters with roots in Burnley and ties to the region.”
