Long: Clarets are fully equipped for Europe!

Burnley are currently doing their bit in the Premier League having opened up a six-point advantage in seventh spot after claiming a fourth successive top flight triumph for the first time in half-a-century.

Sean Dyche's side, who overturned a deficit to beat Watford at Vicarage Road, registering their seventh away win of the campaign, the most games the club has won on their travels at this level since 1965/66, would then require any of Chelsea, Spurs or Manchester United to win the FA Cup.

Chairman Mike Garlick himself admitted that the opportunity of European football was fraught with risks, adding that the competition, which should come with a health warning, is potentially a poisoned chalice for those that qualify.

However, Republic of Ireland international Long, who deputised for the injured Ben Mee in Hertfordshire at the weekend, says that the squad's experience of a frenetic programme in the Championship will stand them in good stead for what could be around the corner.

"European football would be massive for me," said the 27-year-old, who has been at Turf Moor for more than eight years.

"Everyone wants to be playing at the highest level and to be playing in Europe shows that you can do that.

"I’ll be ready for it and the club will be ready for it, for sure. Nothing has happened yet, we’ll concentrate on the games until the end of the season.

"We’ve enjoyed the season so far and we want to see it out now and get as many wins on the board as possible."

With the possibility of playing Saturday-Thursday-Sunday next term, Long added: "Everyone’s played in the Championship and that isn’t much different. The Championship is probably more difficult to be honest because it’s week in and week out.

"A lot of our squad have Championship experience and we won't be affected by playing Thursday-Sunday here. Other clubs maybe, but not here, it will suit us down to the ground.

"The Championship is just relentless, it’s pretty much Saturday-Tuesday through the whole season so you don’t really have a break. You finish a game and you move onto another a couple of days later.

"People complain about playing Thursday-Sunday, but it’s just two games in a week. There’s still a couple of days between the games so I don’t think that will worry us."
