Blessed Trinity’s Year Nine football team left it late to reach the third round of the English Schools’ Football Association competition after overcoming Archbishop Temple School from Preston 3-2.
Archbishop Temple reached the last 16 in the ESFA last season, however, the Burnley school took the lead through Charlie Smith’s header after he got on the end of Harvey Macadam’s cross.
Archbishop Temple got a goal back with a neat finish to make it 1-1 at half-time, and the Preston school took the lead with eight minutes to go.
But with four minutes to go, Blessed Trinity were awarded a penalty after a handball, and Macadam tucked it away to make it 2-2.
Trinity then piled on the pressure and got a winner in the last minute when Macadam crossed for Smith to bundle the ball home.
