A hat-trick from Katie Pollard propelled Burnley Ladies to a 5 – 2 victory at Wigan as they stayed on track for a top four finish in the North West Regional Premier League.

Burnley opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Danni Cooper slipped a pass to winger Charlotte Hartley, who ran at the defence, and in the ensuing goalmouth melee, Pollard converted from six yards.

Em Forrest had a goal-bound strike deflected to safety on the half hour, before Wigan equalised when their pacy winger set up an easy finish.

Pollard, Cooper and Jo Rohman all went close before the break, but the sides went in level.

Jo Holt and Claire Pearson and keeper Sophie Valentine had to stay strong to maintain parity early in the second half, but after 75 minutes, Hartley latched on to a thumping header from full back Taylor Gregson, and blasted into the roof of the net.

Wigan equalised again from a corner, but from the kick-off, Cooper raided down the right and her cross was lashed home by Pollard.

It was 4-2 shortly after, when Pollard completed her hat-trick from a corner.

At the death, substitute Charlotte Coates collected a superb crossfield ball from Rohman and beat the keeper at the near post.
