Burnley Ladies maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a thrilling 3 – 3 draw against Blackpool Ladies, last season’s North West Women’s Premier League runners-up.

The lady Clarets started sluggishly, allowing Blackpool to storm to a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes.

But midway through the first half, the match turned.

A wicked, in-swinging corner from Rachael Wood was volleyed home from six yards by skipper Jo Holt.

The goal transformed the Clarets, with thumping tackles by midfielders Em Forrest and Jane Sexton giving Burnley the upper hand.

Burnley netted a deserved equaliser a minute before the interval when Forrest gathered the ball on the edge of the penalty area, feigned to go right, but then executed a deft left-footed chip over the stranded keeper.

In the second half , against the run of play, Blackpool regained the lead on 75 minutes as a disputed free kick on the edge of the area was blocked by keeper Sophie Valentine, but the Blackpool striker was first to react to the rebound.

Burnley peppered the Blackpool goal , and as injury time approached, Wood ran half the length of the field and delivered a superb cross that Danni Cooper dispatched with aplomb.

On Sunday, in the FA Cup, (kick-off 2 p.m.), Burnley meet Blackpool again atBloomfield Road, admission is free.
