Loan signing Vokes looking forward to working with Howe again

LOAN striker Sam Vokes is excited about the prospect of working with Eddie Howe again.

The 22-year-old Wales international agreed a two-month stay at Turf Moor on Thursday night before finalising the move on Friday.

And while he made his debut in unfortunate circumstances on Saturday, coming on for Charlie Austin after he dislocated his shoulder against Leeds, Vokes hopes the switch will be mutually beneficial.

Vokes made his professional debut alongside Howe at Bournemouth, and featured in the reserve team under the Clarets boss at Dean Court, and he said: “I worked with Eddie at Bournemouth coming through the ranks and played alongside him when I made my debut there.

“Eddie’s great for me because I know him very well. It’s great for me to come here and work under him.

“It’s a shame for Charlie but I wish him all the best. It’s a tough one to take because I know he’s had that injury before and he’s a great player.

“But for me to come on and get my debut at home was good.

“As disappointed as I am for Charlie, it’s a chance for me to try to prove myself now.”

It is Vokes’ fifth loan move after joining Wolves three years ago, but he is just happy to get some match action after his brace in Wales’ 4-1 win over Norway last week.

He said: “The goals have given me the confidence to play and prove myself.”
