The 22-year-old will officially be unveiled as a Liverpool player - subject to a medical - when his contract with the Clarets expires at the end of the month.

Ings, who netted 11 times in his first season in the Premier League, will join a pool of Reds’ strikers that includes Daniel Sturridge, Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini and Divock Origi, who is expected to return from his loan spell at Ligue 1 side Lille.

The 2013/14 SkyBet Championship Player of the Year, who made his Football League debut with Bournemouth away at MK Dons in December 2010, is currently representing England at the European Under 21 Championships in the Czech Republic.

Ings, who replaced Will Hughes in the second half as the Three Lions prevailed over Sweden yesterday, with Jesse Lingard’s late strike securing the points in Olomouc, told Sky Sports: “Words can’t describe the move that I’ve got for myself.

“But, at the same time, I’ve worked my way up from the bottom so it’s even more special for me.

“It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to, I’d never get complacent with anything like that.

“Now I’ve got that move, I’ll work even harder to try and get into that team and be the best professional I can be.”
