Lady Clarets end winless run in style!

GOALS from Em Forrest (2), Laura Hesketh (2) and Ainsley Strickland ensured an emphatic end to Burnley Ladies’ six-match winless streak when they thrashed Chester City 5–1 in the North West Women’s Regional Premier League.

Chester started the game strongly, but Burnley soon found their rhythm and created chances.

The Clarets deservedly opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a long-range shot from central midfielder Forrest arrowed into the top right corner of the goal.

Chester responded positively, and they penned Burnley back for long periods, with only resilient defending from Leah Morrisey and Becky Sidley preventing an equaliser.

But just before the interval, the lightning pace of star-performer Hesketh forced a save from the keeper, only for Strickland to convert the rebound.

In the few seconds of the half remaining, Burnley almost made it three when a thunderous left-foot shot from Lucie Berwick shaved the bar.

Chester reduced the deficit with their first attack of the second half, a looping cross from the left sailing into the net.

The lady Clarets soon restored their two-goal lead with the move of the match.

Winger Berwick darted down the left flank, her deep cross deftly returned by Salkeld into the path of Forrest, who made no mistake from six yards.

Burnley were now in the ascendancy, and it was no surprise when the tireless Hesketh outran her markers to score from a narrow angle.

In the final minutes, the same striker added a fifth when she beat the off-side trap to rifle a shot under the beleaguered Chester keeper.
