Kightly looking forward to Burnley v Blackburn Rovers clash

The 27-year-old joined Burnley on a season-long loan from Stoke City three minutes before the transfer deadline closed on Monday night.

And he is in line to make his bow in the East Lancashire derby against old enemy Blackburn Rovers a week tomorrow in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

But the former Wolves wideman is relishing the challenge: “I’ve had a little look at the fixtures and it’s a nice big one so I look forward to hopefully being involved in that.

“I’ve played in derbies before - Wolves v West Brom was a massive derby so I imagine it will be similar to that.

“I’ve not played in one quite so north so I’ll be looking forward to it.

“Those kind of games are what you play the game for.”

He revealed Sean Dyche was a big factor in his decision to make the switch, having worked with him in a spell on loan at Watford two seasons ago, where he spent three months at Vicarage Road while at Wolves.

Kightly said: “Playing under the gaffer from my time at Watford, I know how he likes to work, I think his training’s very good and his man-management more importantly is probably the best I’ve played under.

“I’ve played under a few managers who’ve had different styles - Mick McCarthy was brilliant, and he took a chance on me at Wolves.

“But I like the way this manager works.

“That was probably the main reason why I wanted to come here.

“From what I saw in my three months at Watford he’s a very good manager.”

Amid the bedlam of deadline day, Kightly had his pick of clubs to join, but he admitted Burnley were his first choice: “I was just sitting at home chilling in my shorts and t-shirt and it went a bit crazy.

“I had a few other options but as soon as I knew that Burnley were involved - I’ve played under the gaffer before so there was only really one option for me.

“No disrespect to the other clubs, but I just felt I wanted to make a decision purely on football.

“I think I’ve done that.”
