Kieran Trippier in contract talks

Trippier left City for Turf Moor in the summer of 2011, initially on loan, before making a permanent switch in January 2012.

Player of the year in his first season with the club, he has been named by his peers in the PFA Championship team of the season for the last two campaigns, emerging as the best right back outside the top flight.

The Ramsbottom-based ace is now relishing taking on the Premier League and said: “I left City because I wanted to play as many games as I can.

“City let me go and I don’t think I got the opportunity there, but I came here and I’ve enjoyed myself.

“I’ve been here three seasons now and been player of the year and got a promotion, so it’s not been bad!

“I’ve always said to myself, my dad, my mum, I’ll never make a better decision in my career to sign for Burnley.”

Trippier has a year remaining on his contract and is sure to attract interest this summer, but he added: “I’m just looking to play in the Premier League now.

“I want to play against the best players, the best teams and better myself.

“That’s my dream since I was at Manchester City.

“I’ve got a year left, I’m enjoying my football here, and we’re in talks.

“I’m happy at Burnley, I’m 10 minutes away, close to my family and friends, so we’ll see what happens.”

Burnley and Trippier ended the season with a club record 93 points, the most ever by the second tier runners-up, after a 2-2 draw at Reading on Saturday, where the former England Under 21 international was on target at the wrong end, and he smiled: “We were disappointed not to come away with the three points at Reading. To score twice, you’d expect to win, but what as great strike by their boy (Garath McCleary) - he caught it sweet.

“But we have to be delighted with 93 points.

“If I hadn’t scored the own goal, we’d have won, but there was nothing I could do about it!”
