Keith Treacy could shine for Burnley

Howe feels the Republic of Ireland international could be one of the most influential players in the Championship at his best.

But the Clarets have only seen rare glimpses of his quality since a move from neighbouring Preston North End in the summer of 2011.

The 24-year-old has made only 20 starts in all competitions, and only one so far this season, when he was hauled off at half-time in the Capital One Cup win over Plymouth at Turf Moor in August.

In fact, in his last four starts for the club, he has been replaced either at or before half-time.

The former Blackburn youngster played a part in pre-season, providing assists for Charlie Austin at Altrincham and Danny Ings at Bury, while scoring himself at Bath City, before a groin problem set him back.

He also earned a recall to the Ireland squad during the summer, selected for the friendly against Serbia in Belgrade in August only to withdraw through injury.

But his only Championship involvement was as a late substitute in Burnley’s 2-0 defeat at Huddersfield Town, and Howe moved to land Hull City’s Cameron Stewart on loan until January to provide competition for regular starters Junior Stanislas and Ross Wallace.

Howe feels Treacy could still be a big asset to the club, under whoever takes the reins at Turf Moor.

Often players get a new lease of life under a new manager, and Howe said: “Keith is a really talented boy.

“We invested a lot of time in him, and I believe there is a fantastic player in there waiting to come out.

“I’d love nothing more than to see Keith do well at Burnley now we have gone, for his own sake.

“I don’t want to see him waste his talent.

“He could be one of the best players in the Championship if he stays fit and mentally right.”

• BURNLEY Youth Team’s fixture at home to Accrington Stanley, which was postponed on Saturday, September 29th, will now be played on Saturday, November 24th at 11 a.m. The game will take place at the Gawthorpe training ground.

• BURNLEY Football Supporters Club will be running coaches to Burnley’s Championship games away at Bristol City and Cardiff City.

Transport to Ashton Gate, for the fixture on Tuesday, October 23rd, will depart Colne bus station at 1-30 p.m. and depart Nelson bus station, Queensgate, Turf Moor and Tim Bobbin in 10 minute intervals before departing Rawtenstall at 2-30 p.m.

Transport to the Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, October 27th will depart Colne bus station at 8 a.m. and similarly depart Nelson bus station, Queensgate, Turf Moor and Tim Bobbin in 10 minute windows before departing Rawtenstall at 9 a.m.
