Keane looking forward to Turf Moor stay after transfer deadline day drama

The 21-year-old’s temporary switch from Old Trafford was given the seal of approval by the Premier League once the dust had settled on a hectic summer window of spending.

The defender revealed that he was alerted to Sean Dyche’s interest by twin brother Will - also at United - late in the day and eventually underwent a medical at St George’s Park before flying out with the England Under-21s ahead of their Euro 2015 qualifiers with Lithuania and Moldova.

“I didn’t hear anything about it and I didn’t have a clue until 5 p.m,” he said. “My brother then gave me a call to say that Burnley had been in contact with United because they were interested in taking me.

“Once I heard that I didn’t want to turn the chance down of playing more Premier League games than I would do if I stayed at United. I worked hard to try and push the move through and it happened at the last minute.

“I had my medical at St George’s at about 11 p.m. so it really was last minute but I was happy that it went through. I sort of knew it was going through but it was good to get the confirmation in the morning. Anything can go wrong but I’m happy it went through and I’m looking forward to my time here.”

Keane, who made his Premier League debut for his parent club under new boss Louis Van Gaal - replacing Chris Smalling as a 44th minute substitute in a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light, admits he felt instantly settled following talks with Dyche and international team-mates Danny Ings and Nathaniel Chalobah.

“I’m really looking forward to working with him (Dyche),” Keane said. “He came down to St George’s that night and after speaking to him for a few hours I knew it was the right place to go. I knew it’d be a good place for me to learn and improve as well as getting some game time.”

He added: “I knew Danny Ings from the England set-up and I came in at the same time as Nathaniel Chalobah so that’s helped me settle in nicely. All the lads have introduced themselves to me and as the weeks go by I’ll get to know them more. As long as you know one or two people at a club it helps you.

“They’re both really nice lads and while we’ve been away we’ve been talking about coming here, what training is like and what the lads are like so it’s helped me settle in.”
