Johann out to cause an upset in the top flight


The 25-year-old featured in every one of his nation’s games in France as they became the surprise package of the tournament, reaching the quarter-finals where they were beaten by the hosts.
After signing from Charlton Athletic, following a term where he proved himself to be one of the most productive midfielders in the Championship, Gudmundsson is confident that he continue defying the odds domestically.

Hide Ad“It’s been a great summer for me personally and topping that by signing for a Premier League team is a dream come true for me,” he said. “What we did for Iceland has been a dream come true as well so it’s been a fantastic summer.
“The Premier League is the biggest stage. Everybody in Iceland watches the Premier League and dreams of playing there so I’m looking forward to that.”
Gudmundsson, who featured for the first time as a substitute in the victory over Rangers at Ibrox, added: “There are similarities. We play the same formation in a 4-4-2 and the way we play is similar as well. It should be easy for me to get to know how we play.
“There’s the unity and all the lads work for each other. It’s a team sport and with 11 players - 18 in the squad - we’re all working for the goal of getting three points in every game. It’s a team sport.
