Jack Cork out to score more goals

MIDFIELDER Jack Cork cut a disappointed figure, despite his goal and man of the match champagne.

The on-loan Chelsea man returned to the side after a sickness bug ruled him out at QPR, and while his first strike of the season earned a point against Doncaster, he felt it should have been all three.

He said: “I think we have only lost three in 16. We have had a good run but we want to be pushing for the top and we need to be winning games. We need to take our chances.

“Everyone is really disappointed after that.

“After the first five or 10 minutes we could have easily won the game and could have had an easy game like the Hull and Barnsley ones.

“We had some really good chances, so it was very frustrating.

“We know the last few games have been a bit hit and miss, so it’s really disappointing.”

Boss Brian Laws called for the side to be more ruthless, and Cork agrees: “Some games it works for you, some games it doesn’t.

“It was just one of those nights when you have so many chances and you can’t take any of them.

“I think we’ve got to accept it and try to get more goals against Watford.

“I was gutted after the first goal because it’s come off my knee and hit the post and almost went in for an own goal.

“I was glad I got the goal to cancel that out.

“It’s disappointing when you see all the chances being missed.

“It’s disheartening and quite hard to get yourself going again but I think we did well to get the goal.

“We’ve just got to try to improve.”

Cork last netted on the last day of the season against Spurs and was delighted to be on target again: “I couldn’t really miss. It was good to get a goal and hopefully I can get a couple more. A few more goals here and there would be good for the team.

“I’m not saying I’ll definitely do it but it’s something I’d like to work on and something I’d like to try to improve on and get going again.”
