‘It’s tough, but doable’ – Dyche

The Clarets sit five points from safety with four games remaining, after their 1-0 defeat at home to rivals Leicester City on Saturday.

But Dyche says he and his players won’t give up until their fate is mathematically sealed.

Burnley go to West Ham United on Saturday, potentially needing to win at least three of their remaining fixtures.

And Dyche said: “Of course it’s a tough ask, it’s been a tough ask all season.

“We’re not in new territory, we were written off a minute after getting up.

“We haven’t spent the resources of many others, even Leicester, who had two centre forwards costing £17m.

“It shows the gulf even between two clubs coming up, and that extra finance can be a powerful weapon.

“But I believed in the team all season and still do, we bring the games on, take them forwards and see what we can get.

“Leicester have just won four on the spin, so never say never.”

And he added: “I said to the lads, last season we were relentless in our desire and will to win games, that’s been on show again, and there’s no reason that would change.

“The challenge is right in front of us, it’s tough, but it’s doable.

“In a weird way, when people seem you are at your weakest, you can be at your strongest, so we’ve got to make the tide turn.

“Theres only us can do it, we’ve created enough chances in the last seven or eight games to win games, and we haven’t taken them.

“Thats the responsibility we have, myself, the coaches and the team, that’s what wins you games because we’ve been solid at the back – Leicester hardly had a chance.”

Striker Sam Vokes missed Saturday’s game through injury, with Lukas Jutkiewicz coming into the side, and Dyche explained: “Vokesy pulled his thigh on Thursday, so he didn’t make it unfortunately.

“We’ll see how quickly it settles, but he got off quickly.”

Fellow forward Ashley Barnes will be available again after suspension at Upton Park.
