The Clarets made eight changes ahead of the clash at Turf Moor, but struggled to make any kind of meaningful impact in the early stages of the encounter.

The Cherries took the lead courtesy of Sam Surridge midway through the first half, and pressed home their advantage in front of interim boss Jonathan Woodgate.

@John_Berry95 tweeted: “I don’t want to hear any excuses tonight other than the obvious, ‘We didn’t want to play in a quarter final of a cup’. It’s an absolutely shambolic joke how we take cup competitions. May as well just not bother even joining them in the first place.”

@andyburnleyfc tweeted: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
