The Clarets made eight changes ahead of the clash at Turf Moor, but struggled to make any kind of meaningful impact in the early stages of the encounter.

The Cherries took the lead courtesy of Sam Surridge midway through the first half, and pressed home their advantage in front of interim boss Jonathan Woodgate.

Kevin Long then tripped the 22-year-old striker inside the box in the closing stages, and Junior Stanislas converted to seal the win and end Burnley’s FA Cup hopes for another year.

We’ve gathered the best reactions from supporters on Twitter below:

@John_Berry95 tweeted: “I don’t want to hear any excuses tonight other than the obvious, ‘We didn’t want to play in a quarter final of a cup’. It’s an absolutely shambolic joke how we take cup competitions. May as well just not bother even joining them in the first place.”

@andyburnleyfc tweeted: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

@RedRoseProud tweeted: “Embarrassing. Our squad depth is League Two standard. Alan better have a big chequebook for the summer or this is going to be our first team in two seasons”.

@mattyh2602 tweeted: “If Sean mentions ‘we played well’ he needs to actually watch the games as today was shocking”.

@mattsimm2 tweeted: “Starts and ends with Dyche that one. Poor team selection. Poor subs. Never in it!”

@Jdenson1997 tweeted: “Great tanking there lads. Should be really proud”.
