Revealed! Which Premier League teams really win the most penalties - and how Burnley measure up

The Clarets have been awarded just one spot kick in the Premier League this season – although it did prove to be an important one, with Ashley Barnes slotting home at Anfield to give them a famous win over Liverpool.

But their paltry total of one penalty goal in 23 matches this term is one of the worst in the division. Only West Ham have fared worse, failing to score any spot kicks at all.

Those stats are hardly out of the ordinary, however.

Sean Dyche’s men are no strangers to being denied goal-scoring opportunities from 12 yards, and have endured some of the worst luck in Europe in recent years.

In fact, as of last summer, they had been awarded the fewest penalties of any side in the continent’s top five divisions over the past three seasons.

Things were so bad that Burnley had even gone on a barren run of 67 league matches without a spot kick at one stage.

At the other end of the field, the Clarets have conceded three fouls in the area.

That tally is the Premier League’s 15th-highest, with their opponents scoring on all three occasions.
