Revealed! Burnley player among worst in Premier League for referee run-ins

For a side that have garnered a reputation for their physicality under Sean Dyche, Burnley have a surprisingly good disciplinary record.

The Clarets have picked up 39 bookings this term – the 13th-highest tally in the division, and 16 fewer than the top flight’s worst offenders, Sheffield United.

Given that they are often portrayed as a bruising team who love nothing more than pumping long balls forward to their centre-forwards, that’s an impressively low total, and it’s made even more eye-catching by the fact that they have received just one red card in the Premier League this season.

Furthermore, Dyche’s side average just over 40% possession per game, and contest over 63 defensive duels per 90 minutes, meaning that they have plenty of opportunities to find themselves coming face-to-face with officials.

But instead, Burnley have amassed just nine bookings more than Manchester City, who have the fewest yellow cards in the division.

But that’s not to say that the Turf Moor outfit are completely without sin, and in terms of getting in trouble with referees, there is one Clarets player who has really stood out in 2020/21.

BettingOdds.com have ran the numbers on which Premier League players have made the fewest fouls for every yellow card they have received this season – or in other words, who gets their names taken by officials most often – and their findings make for interesting reading.
