It is the upturn in form of Scott Parker’s side that has forced clubs in the bottom half of the table to look over their shoulders.

But Dawson, now at Nottingham Forest, is confident the Clarets will retain their Premier League status.

“They’ve got a fighting spirit in and among that group, you can really see the togetherness,” the 37-year-old told Sky Sports’ Football Show.

"I think they’ll be safe. They can win football matches. They’ve not scored many goals but defensively, they are normally very strong and a team that fights for one another.

"Sean Dyche knows what they are – they’re an honest group of players who will work and fight for each right until the very end, and that’s why I think they’ll stay up no problem.
