Burnley transfer news: £45m update in Clarets saga, Player urged to snub Man United for Turf Moor switch

Burnley made it four defeats in five when the slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of West Ham on Monday evening.

The Clarets took the lead through a Chris Wood penalty, but a quickfire double from Michail Antonio was enough to hand the advantage back to David Moyes’ men, and from then on the Hammers were able to make their superior league standing count to hang on for the win.

The result leaves Burnley 16th in the table with four games to play, although Sean Dyche’s men are still nine points clear of danger.

And the Turf Moor chief believes that his side were unfortunate not to send the Irons home with a bloody nose on Monday evening.

He said: “It’s a strange one.

”I didn’t think we were a million miles off, and they were good - they are chasing the Champions League spots for a reason, they are a good outfit.

”Both teams took the game on and played at a real tempo, and they affected the game better.

“We wanted to affect them. You can always question can we hold on to it for longer, but we made a mistake by giving the ball away for the first goal, and the second one we don’t react to a cross.

”We still have a chance to get a point with Jay Rodriguez late on, and that is sort of credit to the players for staying in the game.”
