Burnley transfer news: Dyche delivers summer window prediction after flat January

All things considered, Burnley had a fairly underwhelming transfer window.

With the tailwind of new ownership in their sails, there had been hopes that January could signify a period of recruitment for the Clarets, but as last month came and went, it became increasingly clear that there would be no new faces arriving at Turf Moor.

To credit the club, however, they did seemingly try to bring players in.

Stoke City’s Nathan Collins in particular emerged as a target, but even a last-gasp bid of £7.5 million wasn’t enough to get a deal over the line.

Elsewhere, Jonjoe Kenny ended up swapping Goodison Park for Parkhead as he joined Scottish champions Celtic from Everton.

Again, that deal represented a blow for Burnley, with Dyche said to be a “long-term admirer” of the player, as per journalist Pete O’Rourke.

But while January was a bit of a damp squib, the manager is hopeful that the summer transfer window could be a different story – especially if the Clarets can

recoup some revenue by bringing fans back through the gates at Turf Moor.

He said: "Hopefully, at some point, people will stay fit and well and then come back into stadiums. That will bring different revenue streams for clubs of all

different kinds.

"Clearly it's not as powerful at some clubs. Our revenue from fans is considerably less than other clubs. But it's still a revenue stream that is helpful and,

obviously, we thank everyone for doing that - the fans who do pay to come.

"I think it could change how the market operates this summer. I'm a bit more free-minded about what the market might present to us. But we will have to wait and see on that."

Based on accounts from the 2018/19 season – the last campaign for which they are available – the Clarets are estimated to be missing out on around £275,000 for every home game that they play behind closed doors.

Whether there will be any opportunity for them to welcome fans back to Turf Moor between now and the end of the campaign, however, remains to be seen.
