Ings injury worry for Dyche

The 25-goal top-scorer was forced off 15 minutes from time in Wednesday night’s 3-3 draw at Birmingham City after a poor challenge from home midfielder Tom Adeyemi.

After treatment, Ings hobbled off, to be replaced by Ashley Barnes.

He was seen on crutches, but Dyche was keeping his fingers crossed it is nothing untoward ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Leeds United.

Dyche said: “We’ll wait and see, I think he’ll be alright.

“I think it was a really poor challenge, but there was a number of them on the night.

“That’s the way it is.”

Asked about Ings being sighted using crutches, Dyche added: “It was just a precaution to get the weight off it, but we’ll see how it is.”

Burnley go into tomorrow’s Roses battle eight points clear of Derby County in third place, with 11 games remaining.

And while disappointed to be denied all three points by an injury time equaliser at St Andrew’s on Wednesday, Dyche feels his players again showed good character and mentality to go hard again, on the back of Sunday’s derby victory against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park: “We’re getting stronger.

“Statistically at Blackburn we covered more ground, our intensity was high, the workrate outside of possession, and the quality we have.

“We’re on track for keeping going and have a nice game coming up at home to Leeds, which is our main focus now.

“The fans have seen again how we keep going.

“There was great energy and organisation.

“Only three losses in the season so far, but it is only so far, there’s plenty of work to be done. Results went nicely on Tuesday, and we’re pleased with another point away from home, so there are a lot of positives.”

Meanwhile, Burnley have been taking a look at Dulwich Hamlet’s attacking midfielder Erhun Oztumer this week.

Oztumer has netted more than 30 goals for the Ryman League Premier Division side this season, but Dyche said: “He’s just someone who’s popped in, we have to be open-minded on our recruitment, so it’s nothing too major.”
