Improved Keane offer reportedly wide of the mark

Reports that Leicester City are set to table a '˜take it or leave it' £15m offer for Clarets defender Michael Keane are believed to be wide of the mark.

Turf Moor chiefs are understood to have knocked back an offer in the region of £11.5m from the Foxes for their defensive kingpin last week.

However, sources in the East Midlands have confirmed that an improved bid from the Premier League champions is not currently in the pipeline.

The 23-year-old, named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year having contributed to 20 clean sheets as Sean Dyche’s side were promoted to the top flight as champions, was a virtual ever-present last term and netted five times for the club.

With Champions League football on the agenda for next term, King Power Stadium boss Claudio Ranieri is hoping to bolster his squad to cater for a hectic schedule and provide competition for Wes Morgan and Robert Huth, his first-choice central defensive pairing.

After clinching the title, Keane said: For me, at the moment, it is about trying to do well for Burnley in the Premier League. I’m really happy here at Burnley. Everyone in the team, the manager and the fans have been great with me so there’s no reason for me to leave.”
