The Owls won 1-0 thanks to a late Atdhe Nuhiu spot kick after Jason Shackell brought down Jeremy Helan, but Dyche pointed to fouls on Ashley Barnes, Danny Ings and Lukas Jutkiewicz which went unpunished.

Dyche said: “I’m disappointed with the result, but not the performance, there was a lot of good play, we controlled their long ball threat, they had very few chances...

“We huffed and puffed a bit, we moved it well, kept it well, created some reasonable chances without the golden chance.

“It’s alarming how we didn’t get a penalty if I’m honest, it’s incredible, but cest la vie.”

Dyche made seven changes to the side, giving debuts to Matt Gilks, Stephen Ward and Marvin Sordell, and he added: “The only way they can get match fit is with games.

“We felt that was wise to make sure players on the periphery get games.

“I thought the performance was a nearly performance, you score the first goal and it changes that nearly performance into a good one.

“We dominated the stats and made the chances.”
