The Turf Moor chief doesn’t claim to be an anomaly in society, but he feels that it is an infectious trait that has spread throughout the club.

Ahead of tonight’s Championship clash with Fulham on home soil, he said: “I recently refurbished a house. I did that 10 years ago and I wasn’t happy with it and there were things that I thought ‘If I get the chance to do it again I’m going to do it better’, and I did.

“But are we not all like that? I think most people are like that.

“I don’t think most people go to work, go home and switch off, I think people care about what they do and think about what they do and you’re always looking to improve what you do.

“I certainly am. My players are, and we’re in an environment here that is like that.

“Certainly that was my way of thinking when I came to the club - both on and off the pitch. There were some things that I spoke about with the board on how to improve the club, and that was pre-Premier League money when there were lots of things going on then.”

It will take some doing to surpass the record-breaking 2013/14 season when the Clarets accrued 93 points to seal promotion to the Premier League.

The Clarets, boasting an average of two points per game from their opening 14 outings this term, are five points shy of their tally at this stage two years ago, but Dyche insists that improvement transcends beyond the numerical.

With just two points separating the Clarets and league leaders Brighton, Dyche said: “We want to add to things but doing what you need to do to be in the Premier League is whatever way it comes around.

“My point is you can’t guarantee there is THE way of delivering performances in order to be in the Premier League. Not THE way. There are lots of different ways and you have to be open-minded and flexible enough for your team to be able to operate in different ways.

“That’s what we really focus on. We don’t really govern ourselves by doing it one way and that is the only way.

“There are other ways and different ways.”
