A key artefact from Burnley FC’s history has gone on display in a new exhibition marking the 125th anniversary of The Football League.

The club have provided a shirt, worn by Ian Britton in Burnley’s game against Orient at Turf Moor on May 9th 1987..

Burnley escaped relegation and exit from the Football League on the last day of the 1986-87 season beating Orient 2-1 at Turf Moor.

Burnley had to win and one of two other teams, Lincoln and Torquay had to loose.

Britton scored the first of the two goals just after half time.

The National Football Museum and The Football League have launched a major new exhibition at the Museum’s stunning new Manchester home entitled Game Changers: 125 Years of The Football League.

The exhibition, which is free to all visitors, celebrates the 125th Anniversary of the world’s original league football competition.

It runs from September through until April, the length of the first season of The Football League in 1888/89.
