Hennings happy to get off the mark for Clarets

The 28-year-old former Karlsruhe SC forward netted in the 85th minute as Sean Dyche’s side recovered from a two-goal deficit to salvage a point against Cardiff City in South Wales.

Hennings, a six-figure summer signing, had replaced Scott Arfield in the 76th minute of his 10th appearance for the club before converting George Boyd’s assist, beating Bluebirds stopper David Marshall at his near post.

“It was an important goal and we attacked to the end and scored another goal to get an important point,” he said.

“It wasn’t our best game but I try to do something when I’m on the pitch and it was good.

“You have 10 minutes or 15 minutes sometimes (as a substitute) and you put everything into it and today it was successful.

“That’s a great feeling. When I scored the goal I thought we can get more, and it came.

“I didn’t see that the ball went in the net. My team-mates were running, and the ball wasn’t in the goal anymore and I thought ‘okay, it must be a goal, get back to the line’.”

Hennings, who featured for Horst Hrubesch’s German side in the qualifying stages of the 2009 UEFA European U21 Championships alongside World Cup winners Mesut Ozil, Sami Khedira and Toni Kroos, certainly knows where the net is.

Last season he scored 17 times as Karlsruhe went within seconds of reaching the Bundesliga.

“I know that I can score goals and today I showed it but I have to show it again and I hope I do,” he said.

“It’s good for strikers to score goals. Every goal makes every striker a little bit stronger. I’m confident that I can help the team with my skills.

“It’s good to score but it’s important to move on and be self confident for the games.”

Hennings has only made three starts since signing on at Turf Moor but he believes he’s starting to acclimatise to the Championship.

“In the first weeks I had to look at how we play and how it works on the pitch and now I think it’s getting better and better,” Hennings said.

“We play very similar every week and training is similar to our matches.

“I’ve been here for a few months now so I’m getting used to it, but I think I can be better in a couple of months.

“I’m 28 and I think I know what I can do well and what I can do better.”

Having dropped to the bench at weekend, Hennings added: “I want to play every game, with Andre, with Sam, with Longy - with everybody.

“We want to play and we want to win and we want to score goals and I hope we continue.

“I accepted it because it’s normal in football. He (Sean Dyche) wants to win every game and when he makes his decision he thinks a lot about it, and that’s okay for me.”
