Help mark Burnley’s famous FA Cup victory

The Clarets won the famous old trophy for the first and only time in their history on Saturday, April 25th of that year.

It was the last of 20 finals to be played at the famous Crystal Palace Grounds and was also the first time that the reigning monarch had attended professional football’s most prestigious occasion.

At the end of the match, a 1-0 victory for the Clarets against Liverpool, King George V presented the trophy to Burnley captain Tommy Boyle, then handed all the Clarets’ players specially inscribed winners’ medals.

Club historian Ray Simpson is collating memorabilia to enhance an exhibition.

Ray said: “Our exhibition, to provisionally run from March for two months, will feature material connected with that historic day.

“The club already owns a number of items relating to the day, including the medal won by centre forward Bert Freeman, who scored the all important goal.

“We are looking for other items such as documents, newspaper cuttings, photographs, or recollections of family anecdotes.”

All items will be stored securely then displayed under secure conditions and returned to the owners after the exhibition.
