Goalkeeper Heaton vows to fight until the bitter end

The Clarets go to the KC Stadium to face Hull City tomorrow knowing that nothing less than a victory will do if they’re to cling on to their faint hopes of survival.

One win in 14 has made Burnley’s task almost impossible while a solitary goal in 819 minutes of football hasn’t helped that predicament.

“We’ve got three games left and we want to focus on going to Hull next and giving a good account of ourselves,” he said.

“We’ll keep fighting. We have to keep going, there’s nothing else you can do.

“There certainly won’t be any lack of fight or will and desire to go and win the games.

“We’ve got three games left. It’s not impossible at the minute so we won’t lose hope.

“We’ll go again and look to go and win the game. That’s all we can do.”

Sean Dyche’s side have scored the fewest goals of the 92 clubs in England’s top tier and Football League with 26, but Heaton confessed that their profligacy hasn’t been caused by a lack of endeavour.

The Clarets have won all four of their previous outings in the Tigers’ cage but they’ll need to end a stretch of 569 minutes without a breakthrough if they are to extend that purple patch.

“It’s difficult,” Heaton said. “The defences are very good but we’re certainly getting into the positions up in the field, it’s then that we need that little final bit of composure, whether it’s a pass or seeing someone.

“But there’s certainly no shortage of endeavour and we’ll keep trying to look to rectify it and that starts again this week.”

He added: “Teams never get flustered whether they’re winning, losing or drawing. That’s something I’ve seen this year.

“Pretty much every team you come up against is comfortable defending. It’s learning for us.

“We’ve unlocked the door plenty of times this season, albeit not too much recently.

“We need to look back and gain confidence from the goals we’ve scored and keep going. There’s nothing else you can do.”

Defender Michael Duff had his red card - awarded by referee Jonathan Moss in defeat against West Ham - rescinded by the FA’s disciplinary committee.

The 35-year-old will now be available for tomorrow’s fixture, but Heaton feels the damage has already been done.

““It’s always going to be difficult after getting a man sent off 25 minutes into a game.

“The penalty was probably fair but the sending off I thought was very harsh.

“You’re up against it after that. It’s tough.”
