Goal ace Danny Ings hails biggest win of season

Ings put the Clarets ahead after seven minutes at Molineux, and provided the ball for Martin Paterson to add a second after the break.

Michael Duff was sent off after the hour, but Nouha Dicko’s late strike was just a consolation, as Wolves were left staring at successive relegations.

Ings said: “It’s the biggest win of the season.

“We went into the game knowing that we had to win with the suggestion we could go down, but we took that in our stride and put in a good performance.

“The lads showed great fight. We were fantastic from start to finish, we worked hard for each other and I’m glad we came out with the three points, which we deserved.

“Now we can relax a little bit. I’m sure training’s going to be fun this week going into the last game, but we’ll take it seriously and look to get the three points.”

Ings’ third goal of the season was the perfect start for the Clarets, and he added: “There were a little bit of nerves but the pressure was more on Wolves and it showed. After we got the early goal I think the crowd got on their backs a little bit and we took advantage of that.

“I was over the moon with the goal . I’ve been on a bad run and not had many minutes. It was just great to score the goal that put us in the lead.

“I had a good touch that brought me inside from Tripps’ (Kieran Trippier) cross and it just opened up for me nicely.

“It’s great playing with him on the right hand side, he’s very creative and probably the best right back in the league for me.”

And the former Bournemouth man hopes the only way is up after an inconsistent campaign for the club: “It’s probably one of the best experiences I’ve had in football, to come to a club like this and grind out three points in a sort of relegation battle is massive. It’s a great experience for me.

“It’s crazy this league. Hopefully next year it won’t be as crazy. Hopefully we’ll get a few more wins and we’ll be up there.

“We’ve got a good game against Ipswich next week, a good summer break for the lads and then we go again pre-season and hopefully get off to a flying start.

“I’m looking forward to starting next season. I’ll have a good summer break and the team will as well, but after that its hard work and a good start.”

And after two seasons hit by injury, Ings hopes to take the form he is currently in, into the next campaign: “It’s important that people step up to the plate when big games come up and I was just glad I got that goal.

“I worked my socks off. I could have done better on the ball but I suppose in games like that nobody’s perfect.

“Hopefully next season I’ll have more goals, more minutes on the pitch.”
