The 22-year-old joined Burnley on a three-year contract two months ago, after impressing on trial after leaving hometown club Aalesund at the end of his deal.

He has had to be patient, earning a place on the bench without making an appearance before Saturday, when he replaced David Jones in the 88th minute.

“We will see what the manager decides.

“Of course it meant a lot, the fans here are really great, so of course it was great.

“I hope to make more appearances and hopefully I do well. I’m very motivated so I can’t wait for the next game and next season.”

English football has long been hugely popular in Scandinavia, and Ulvestad is living out his ambition: “English football is very big in Norway so it’s a dream for every player.

“My dad was over and my girlfriend’s family so they were here to see me.

“I like it very much here, the people are very friendly and I enjoy it.”

Ulvestad signed for a Premier League club, but will be plying his trade in the Championship next season.

However, he said: “Of course, the Premier League is the best league in the world so it’s good to be here.

“It’s a very competitive league but I was just sitting on the bench and hoping to get my chance.

“But the lads are very positive so we just have to focus on the next game and then next season.”

And he described his playing style for Burnley fans wanting to know more about their new face: “I’m a hard working midfielder and I like to have the ball at my feet.”
