Former Tiger Boyd is confident Clarets will start to show teeth

Boyd buoyed: George Boyd has no doubt that the goals will start to come and is pleased with the Clarets current unbeaten run.

The Clarets travel to the West Brom on Sunday on the back of three scoreless draws and Boyd, who finished 16th with Hull last season, is sure that this team has what it takes to stay up.

“It’s so similar (to Hull). Steve Bruce was always building on the defence and then building forward. Keep clean sheets and you’ll win games. It’s very similar. Promoted team, great team spirit very similar to Hull and there’s no doubt I think we’ll survive.”

The £3m. deadline day signing is happy with the start to the season the club has made and he said confidence was high ahead of the trip to the Hawthorns.

“Three unbeaten is brilliant for a promoted team coming up and it’s something to build on. So we will go there full of confidence.

“We played well again (against Sunderland), same against Palace last week. Jus t needed that goal but can’t fault the players’ effort. We’re knocking on the door and eventually it’s going to come.

“We created numerous chances and it just needs to go off someone’s backside and go in at the minute.

”There’s a lot of inexperience at this level and you can see the boys are playing so well and they’ve taken to this stage easily really. I think the chances are coming. we created more than we did last week and it’s just building on that week-in, week-out. It will come, no doubt.

“Ugly 1-0s, I’d take that all day. That’s the Premier League.”

Boyd said the manager hadn’t said anything about the lack of goals but the 28-year-old feels there’s enough fire-power within the squad, even without last season’s two top scorers, to ensure that will soon change.

“He’s very pleased with the way we’re playing and as I say you can’t keep not scoring. So eventually our luck will come with us and we’ll get that goal.

“We’ve got three clean sheets, which is brilliant and that’s something for us to build on. We just need that goal. It’s going to come, there’s no doubt.

“Juke was brilliant this week and last week and no doubt he’ll score. And Barnesy has come on and done well and Marv started today and did ok. So yeah, we’ve got the players to come in for them boys (Ings and Vokes) but obviously when they come back it’s even more fire-power for us.”

Fitness will be a key factor for Burnley this season according to Boyd, who said one of the big things he’s noticed since joining as been the level of intensity in training.

He has completed the 90 minutes against both Crsytal Plaace and Sunderland and but said he was still building up his levels.

“We over-ran (Sunderland) the last 15 fitness wise. Big notice for me coming in training wise it’s intense, it’s at it every day. It’s like playing a game every day in training so we’ll do this to more teams I think, last 15, running all over them.

“I got cramp at 59 last week and 79 this week so I’m getting there, building up fitness . It’s just great to be playing week-in, week-out at this level so I’m loving it.

“I didn’t come here to play Championship next season, I’ve come to stay in the Premiership where everyone wants to be.”
